Most people, if not all, hesitate to make a change because of finances.
They are convinced, like you might be, that you can’t make a change because of your financial obligations.
We have seen thousands of scenarios where people let go of “security” to be happier at work.
It sometimes means a step back financially, but that does not mean you wouldn’t advance financially in your new venture as well.
Many also know they could retire on the money they have but don’t want to.
That’s understandable and yet, again, it’s no guarantee that you’d do something else and not continue to make money.
Working out the money, especially emotionally, is an important piece of the puzzle,
and you’ll do that here in Chapter Eight of your book and with the worksheets.
You’ll also find a script for talking to people who have done what you might hope to do in the future. People are pretty good about being asked about themselves and what they do, so network your way to the chance to talk to them. You want to make your decision to do something new based on reality, not on your fantasized version of what it might be like to work in a particular field. (You’ll find more about this in Chapter Six in your book).
Next, I’d like you to use the WANT/NEEDS worksheet to map out who, what and even where (office, practice space?) you’ll need or already have to start moving into your new direction. You must make these asks to get where you need to go. It’s OK to ask, to lean on friends and to take risks.
The following step is to figure out what support means to you and who should be in your inner circle of top supporters during the transition you are in.
That worksheet is called “You Don’t Have To Do It Alone.”
Finally, we’ve provided a timeline graphic for you to plan out the next year (or less) of action you should be taking.
You’ll notice that we ask you to do the planning BACKWARDS.
There are twenty-five years of experience embedded in this work and tens of thousands of client hours. It works!
